Be very careful when it comes to treating your crop for disease. Always deal with the problem before it occurs, thus preventing a big problems later. Be considerate and use one of the safe and effective treatments we have selected below. Chemical sprays can leave a very nasty aftertaste on your crop.

Pest and Disease Spray
Sulphur is a mineral that occurs in nature. This form of sulphur is combined with natural fatty acids to give a reduction in powdery mildew, as well as to give useful control of whitefly, spidermite, mealy bug, greenfly, blackfly and thrips. For best results apply a protective spray before infection is established. Repeat at 10-14 day intervals. |

Halo
Halo contains the Harpin protein. Harpin does not act directly on disease organism, nor does it alter the DNA of treated plants, but instead activates a natural defense mechanism in the host plant, referred to as systemic acquired resistance (SAR). This new active ingredient is currently the only broad-spectrum, proteinaceous elicitor of SAR commercially available. Harpin is effective against certain viral diseases for which there are no other controls or resistant plant varieties. It also protects against soil-borne pathogens and pests, such as certain nematodes and fungal diseases. Brix Refractometer
One of the most useful tools any grower can own - so says Jorge Cervantes. Unlike EC measurement which can only measure the strength of a nutrient solution before it enters the plant, a brix reading measures the actual sugar content within the plant after nutrients are applied. The higher the level of sugar within plant tissue the stronger the plant and the better it will yield. Using the meter, growers can learn about nutrient problems days or weeks before they are visible in foliage. Simply pick a leaf and roll into a ball. Compress the balled up leaf to extract a few drops of juice into the refractometer. Readings below 10 - trouble; above 12 - good. |

Microbial
Microbial is used to stimulate a plant's inbuilt immune system, thus improving overall plant health and increased resistance to attacks from pests and diseases.
Even with a good preventative maintenance program in place, problems can still occur such as algal blooms, pythium outbreaks, mould and mildew attacks. These can occur because of pH shifts, lack of oxygen, poor environment control and imported organic materials transferred by growers from other sites. Indoor hydroponic environments are especially at risk to such pathogens, and the grower must effectively become mother nature by instigating an effective preventative maintenance programme.
Microbial is a wide-ranging aqueous solution derived in part from naturally occurring plant extracts. Microbial is non toxic to humans, animals and plants and is totally biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
Microbial acts as a micro-cleanser and plant rootzone conditioner, which cleans and rejuvenates plants. This allows the plant to naturally withstand attacks from common pests and biological contaminants like bacteria, fungi, algae and viruses. |
